K-tel Creative Designs began as an educational journey into the design and execution of fine wood art.

Through years of experimental techniques and refinement, I have cultivated the ability to bring out the best features in rare and exotic woods. These features are now available for you to enjoy as well.

Transition from Music to Woodworking

Kelly Tellef has been active in local and regional live music since his teens, developing his electric bass guitar playing skills into a successful enterprise that has served him well and that he has enjoyed throughout his adult life.

Live music being ephemeral, a musical artist’s work exists in the moment, but then is gone. Kelly developed an interest in finding a way to express himself creatively outside of music, in tangible, physical works that are made to last.

Always interested in wood, Kelly picked up a piece of firewood and started exploring it on its own terms. It showed him how grain, flaws, inclusions, and damage can be worth highlighting, and how much beauty is available that could otherwise rot away or be burned.

Experimenting with different types of wood let him to truly enjoy his relationship with a wide variety of challenging woods, often including rare, ancient, and exotic varieties.

Kelly works with each wood piece to see what it contains, and how best to bring out its own unique features as an expression of his creativity and love for the natural world and the richness it contains.
